Webinar: The Family/Home Visitor Partnership: Supporting Children’s Learning and Development through the Home-Based Option

When: Thursday, March 25, 2010, 10:00 am – noon

Where: TTA Center and online

Designed for: Head Start and Early Head Start Managers and Supervisors Head Start and Early Head Start Home Visiting Staff

Last spring the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) made Head Start and Early Head Start (EHS) program funding opportunities available. As a result, many organizations applied for these funds to expand or offer new EHS and Head Start services. Several programs that received funding are offering services through the Early Head Start and Head Start home-based option.

This webinar is designed for those programs. The interactive webinar will focus on home visiting as a vehicle to support children’s development and learning. It will examine the role of the home visitor in helping parents observe their children’s development, consider the next step in their learning and development, and design ways to support parents to use daily routines and experiences to promote their child’s development through natural and meaningful interactions. The session will present managers, supervisors, and home visiting staff with strategies to ensure that this important home visiting component comes alive during each home visit. During the session participants will:

  1. learn the unique principles surrounding home visiting and its focus on supporting children’s learning and development
  2. reflect on practices related to the child development services
  3. review relevant Head Start Program Performance Standards
  4. understand how to make learning fun and interactive; allowing the parent to take the lead
To examine and establish a firm foundation for home visiting in your program, you can participate in two ways:

  1. Join your colleagues at the TTA Center for the webinar and take part in on-site discussions about how your program’s home-based service model addresses the issues raised; or
  2. Access the webinar from your office as a team. If you participate in this way, we ask that you convene key manager, supervisors, and staff in your program to join together to watch the webinar and take part in the reflective discussion.

Whether you join us in person at the TTA Center, or participate from your program, please register yourself and your staff so we can provide you with additional information following the webinar and documentation of your training hours. Our webinar format offers you the latest information on home-based services and opportunities to share strategies and dialogue with colleagues within and across states.
