Webinar: Supporting Mothers with Maternal Depression through Our Work in Head Start and Early Head Start

When: August 5, 2010, 10:00 am Noon

Where: TTA Center and online

Presenter: Linda S. Beeber, PhD, RN, FAAN

The Early Head Start Research and Evaluation Project found that at the time of enrollment, 52% of mothers reported depressive symptoms that were severe enough to interfere with their function and parenting.  The research also noted that parental depression was associated with less positive outcomes for young children such as increased aggression and poorer child functioning.  EDC, Inc. and the state TTA Centers are delighted to have Linda Beeber, a nationally recognized expert in the field of maternal depression, conduct this webinar.  Linda will share foundational information about maternal depression including: signs and symptoms, risk factors, prevalence amongst various populations, treatments, and the impact on young children’s development.  Participants will engage in interactive discussions and activities to:

  • explore strategies to increase staff comfort in broaching this topic with parents
  • build staff competencies in supporting mothers in their role as parents
  • increase their knowledge of available resources.
